De l'artefact à la technologie

L'anthropologie considère les aspects symboliques et techniques des artefacts comme aussi importants l’un que l’autre. Leur séparation dans les sociétés modernes semble créer une hiérarchie dans laquelle le technique est indépendant du symbolique. Dans cet exposé, je soutiendrai qu'il s'agit d'une illusion : la technologie moderne est également à la fois technique et symbolique et les deux aspects sont significatifs. Il y a bien sûr une différence entre la technologie moderne et les artefacts étudiés par l'anthropologie, mais l'opinion conventionnelle se trompe sur la nature de cette différence.La conférence sera suivie d'une discussion animée par Pierre-Antoine Chardel, LAP/LACI.---Anthropology treats the symbolic and the technical aspects of artifacts as equally important. Their separation in modern societies appears to create a hierarchy in which the technical is independent of the symbolic and more significant. In this talk I will argue that this is an illusion: modern technology too is both technical and symbolic and both aspects are equally significant.
